Liberating higher education

It is common knowledge that, in general, the level of education at Jordanian universities has fallen in recent years. Graduates of Jordanian universities are more likely to be unemployed than those with a high school level education.

Maybe it is time for us to come clean on higher education: it is falling.

A major overhaul of the higher education system is warranted and highly overdue.

Jordan’s fiscal future

The government has adopted a mechanism to deal with the growing budget deficit, taking the easy route of raising taxes. But raising taxes when the economy is slow negatively affects economic activity and does not help deal with the long-term problem of growing public debt.



There is a better way, a road less travelled: spurring economic activity, and with it the GDP, a situation where both government and economy win. Here is how it can be done.

Financing ‘the start-up nation’

I recently read with interest “The Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle”, a Council on Foreign Relations book by Dan Senor and Saul Singer.

الطلب على العقار 2013

رغم ارتفاع أسعار الشقق وتدني القدرة الشرائية للمواطنين نتيجة المصاعب الاقتصادية التي يمر بها الأردن، غير أن هنالك زيادة في الطلب على العقارات عن المعدل الطبيعي (الأعوام السابقة)، فقد ارتفع حجم التداول في سوق العقار المحلية خلال الثلث الأول من 2013 بنسبة 40 بالمئة مقارنة بالفترة ذاتها من العام 2012؛ وارتفع حجم التداول في سوق العقار خلال شهر نيسان فقط من العام الحالي بنسبة 46 بالمئة مقارنة بالشهر نفسه من العام 2012؛ ليبلغ 584 مليون دينار تقريباً، وبارتفاع بلغت نسبته 65 بالمئة مقارنةً بشهر نيسان…See More
