There seems to be a paucity of stories that inspire us Jordanians..Stories that can bring the best out of us..Stories that make us feel proud..Forget about economic achievements and entrepreneurship for a second and celebrate our greatest human values: Love, dedication, sacrifice, and integrity..
Lets not talk about how X made a million and how Y won the Z prize..Let us for a second talk about those great Jordanians:
"Abdullah Abu Tawileh whose parents decided to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead last week, is inspiring thousands of citizens to become organ donors when they die." [Source]
The two policemen who died in a shootout with a wanted criminal..Who showed us that dedication is an ultimate value that we all should cherish..
The employee who blew the whistle about the embezzlement of our tax money from the ministry of agriculture..
The other employee who refused the 50,000 JD pay off and instead worked with the authorities to put the perpetrators behind the bars..
Those stories should not go to waste, so spread the word and honor those great Jordanians by telling their stories..
You're so right. We definitely don't share such stories enough!
Organ donation is probably the most incredible thing one can do for life upon our exit. I often say a DNR is my right, organ donation is the right of someone else.
Police stories should be shared for many reasons. There are women and men in service who humble us with their devotion to their uniform. They are the ones constantly building a safety net that allows us to walk around freely without looking over our shoulder. I always feel safe in Jordan. Sure, been spooked, harassed and shaken up, and lash back out, but never felt threatened or helpless.
Then there are those who abuse their uniform and it angers me into a rage every time. I always walk away saying that they should respect the uniform they're wearing even if they don't want to respect themselves.
Thanks for the reminder that we should make it our duty to contribute to bringing out stories of honor for public good.

Great article, and I agree with all your points, well said! the censorship is only hiding away from the truth! If you say your true opinion without being extreme no one can argue with that!

@Tanya You bet. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about anything, but you are not entitled to your own facts. This is absolutely fundamental! There is a huge responsibility about what people say/write in the public sphere.
@Feras Excellent…
I loved your post. I think that in Jordan (and in countries with semi or total authoritarian regimes), we tend to believe that freedom of speech is a birthright, in an attempt to replicate the Western discourse. However, we tend to forget that democ…
You bring up some very valid points about freedom of speech, Nadine, one of which is do your research before you write or say anything. It's very easy to jump on the bandwagon about issues we know little about.
Fact: No one can take your freedom of thought and expression away from
you. If you feel stifled and silenced, you're doing it to yourself.
My
theory is that if individuals, and specific to this blog, Jordanians,
shed themselves of the fear that shr…
