As service country one way to distinguish Jordan, is by having innovative, creative and dynamic Entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship I believe, its not about starting your own business, its about introducing a creative, innovative, and if not both, which is the most important factor is filling/creating a need in the market, creating the opportunity and if not new a industry as example the online businesses and ,i know it will sound really wrong but its true that is, the DVD market.
Because of my job, i interact with young entrepreneurs in daily bases as my job as business developer for online applications and my god we are great creative community we have here in jordan.
So i think we need push, motivate and incentivize those entrepreneurs, by creating the right environment and set the right regulations for them. After that don't worry about them because they are the opportunists and they will create their own market and survive inshlah

An entrepreneur according to the economic definition is anyone who gathers economic resources (labor, capital, technology, land including raw materials) and organizes them into a business. Her payment is profit and for that assumes all risks and bears uncertainties. the definition makes the one who organizes a falafel stand and an IT company entrepreneurs. And they are.

What environment? An absolute minimum is easy entry and exit. Focus on creative entrepreneurs means also a direct emphasis of the government on: infrastructure, stable and modern regulations and acceptability of the consequences of the free thinking mindset. The debate in advanced countries for instance still rages over whether certain art pieces are pornographic (due to nudity) or art. However, the work is permitted to be displayed as art and voices of dissent appear here and there. The idea is that voices are heard and transparent court systems decide what is right and wrong, not government regulations that tell people what to do. In other words, regulations should tell people what not to do, not what to do. This is a mindset that has enabled creativity to blossom.

When we fought in the mid ninties to have Internet enter Jordan, I had to defend the case in parliament. Some said that Internet needed to be severely regulated and even not permitted, thank God we won. Now the very ones who fought it based on moral grounds can access holy text via the internet and speak with each other and do research so easily. Tell people what not to do, and leave the creative mind to do its thing.

Thanks Ghaith for the inspiration
great fight, and 100% agree about the regulation.
Maybe what i meant by regulations is incentive programs such as science parks and so.
thanks for the fight and the reply
In my personal opinion, the word "Entrepreneur" is over used now days, everybody is an Entrepreneur wanna be..and that words brings to my mind "make money fast" schemes than actual hard working ppl who created a great thing out of nothing.
However I'm all in for good actions and outcomes no matter what word is used.

Here's a question about Jordanian Entrepreneurship, If someone got this brilliant idea that not only needs large funding but needs a whole team or company for professionally executing the idea and making it a reality, using resources that are available in Jordan ,and in which it would result a good benefit nation wide probably for a long term of time.
What are the steps to take? and I'm talking about the regular Jordanian here with zero experience in making ideas happen and that if he'd come a little bit open about it he's probably sure the idea would be stolen and implemented with him out of the pic before he can count to ten.
Led, I believe entrepreneurship about really hard working, creative, innovative individual understands the market and its need, the precipitin of entrepreneurship or entrepreneurs as people seeking for "quick and large money" they are not entrepreneurs, its either a scam or great opportunist (i.e part of entrepreneurs spirit), in both case good for them.
many of the rich and old business people in jordan were entrepreneurs, starting with filling a market gap and expand from there to something huge. someone told me in order to get a million you need to give million $ work, so i think it involves hard and smart working. but someone else told in-order to earn 20 million in jordan you must start with 40 million :)
Successful entrepreneurs mostly the first first movers in the market, they invent, introduce, and create new technologies, concepts or innovations to the market.
however, in jordan I believe in order to sell a service you need to have a network and to sell a product you must compete in price. But we do have many NGOs support entrepreneurs and SMEs such as YEA, and many other fund organizations also we do have MIT entrepreneurs competition among many other competition happens every year. all that beside private companies acts as angle investors like last year Intel funded three jordanian companies.
if you want i can get to a list of all those NGOs and private companies.
and led have some faith, in the law the idea its protect even if its been said verbally, i think, i will check with the lawyer tomorrow and led bill gates stole the concept and turn it to the biggest IT firm in the universe, so its not about the idea its about the implementation of the idea or concept. Another prove, the company did invent the ipod was bought by apple, and apple sold 220mil units till sep 09, so its all about the implementation and the real and smart entrepreneur will never shine without proper implementation.
"What are the steps to take?"

These might be good places to start Led:
YallaStartup! From idea to reality, & free entrepreneurship courses
ArabCrunch.net: online social platform for entrepreneurs, techies, investors, scientists and their ecosystem in the Arab world and beyond.
Thanks Ghaith and lady Nadine.
I'm going after it..today I received and email from Yallastartup and apparently I didn't get a "free" course, too bad eh..I really can't afford their fees so I guess I have to do without em and learn bit by bit from my own mistakes.
Have applied to the Arabcrunch too..I don't feel that internet social connections can implement an idea out of nothing,I see it more of a fantasy to happen, still I will turn every real or virtual stone to make things happen.
